We are all acutely aware of our mortality. An awareness that is both a blessing and a curse.

A blessing in that we can try and make the most of the time we have and truly try to enjoy every day.

The curse comes as we feel time slipping away, watching those we love leave us forever and knowing that our time to leave too will come.

Whatever our personal beliefs on the matter, after death, we will be unseen and unheard.

The thought of no longer having an obvious presence in life, can create anxiety and/or spur people into action hoping to leave a remnant of themselves behind.

Some have children, others volunteer and lend support to charities, write books, create successful businesses.

They leave a legacy.

The matriarch of our family, passed away at 93. She didn’t have a successful business or a Wikipedia profile. She didn’t write a blog or leave a video with her words of wisdom. There aren’t even photographs of her or status updates on Facebook, but regardless, her legacy lives on.

It lives on in the memories of those of us that knew her, and in the stories we tell to those of us who didn’t.
